Intro: Why Bluetooth?: Switching from standard, wired audio to Bluetooth audio is kinda like switching from bad coffee to good coffee: it is very hard to go back. Bluetooth has many advantages over a standard, wired connection. When using wired headphones, I constantly find myself accidentally stretching the wire by moving my hand or my head a certain way. In addition to being an annoyance, this makes it easier to damage the device. With Bluetooth, there is no wire to worry about, therefore a user has a greatly increased their range of motion. When using wired speakers, a user must leave their device, whatever it may be, within a few inches of the speaker unit. This means that in order to change the song or interact with the device in any way, a user must get up from their comfy chair, couch or bed and walk over to where the speakers are. For some people, this may not be an issue, like those who use desktop speakers exclusively at their desk. For me, I don’t just use my desktop speakers when I am sitting at my desk; I use them when I am on my couch, on my bed or anywhere else in the room. Therefore, having my phone or computer tethered to my desk was truly an inconvenience. For that reason, I had considered buying a set of Bluetooth desktop speakers for the longest time. I just wan’t able to find a suitable pair in my price range. With this, I began looking for alternatives. Finally I found an inexpensive and seemingly reliable alternative. I ordered it through Amazon (along with another Bluetooth-related goody, be on the lookout for another review) and it arrived this week. Upon first impressions, I am very pleased. This is a gold mine for anyone attached to their current speakers but looking for some modernization. My name is John, this is Morning Coffee Tech and this is my review of the Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter. Picture2

The Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter is elegant and simple. Setup took all of 30 seconds. For many basic sets of speakers, a user connects their device to the speakers through the auxiliary connection (using the cable that you would use to connect the speakers to a phone, computer, etc.) With this device, you plug the small box into the wall for power and then plug the auxiliary cable into the box. Once you see the blue LED indicating power, press the big button with the Bluetooth symbol. From here, pair your device like you would do with any other Bluetooth device and you’re set! You can now wirelessly play audio from any Bluetooth capable device to any set of speakers with an auxiliary plug (nearly every pair of speakers I have seen has this plug.) There is no compromise whatsoever in sound quality. In fact, for some reason, the sound quality seemed enhanced when using the device (this could have been my imagination). The adapter is very small and compact: use the coffee pod for size comparison!

This device isn’t fancy and it isn’t complicated. You don’t have to worry about software compatibility either: any sound that comes from your phone will be transmitted to your speaker system. (Just to clear one thing up: this device is not a speaker system, it is to be used with wired speakers.) To restate, it turns a regular pair of speakers into a Bluetooth pair of speakers. Because of how simple the device is, it does not have a large price tag. Currently, you can pick it up on Amazon for just under $40. This is a prudent purchase considering how much more expensive Bluetooth speakers are than wired speakers, usually with sacrificed quality. Picture3

If you pick up this device for yourself, you will be pleasantly surprised. If you are anything like me, it will tempt you to stretch out on your favorite couch with a hot cup of coffee and enjoy the un-tethered, high quality audio experience with your favorite pair of speakers you just couldn’t give up for a wireless pair.

Here is the link if you decide to pick up one of these for yourself:

**Update: Through usage of this device I discovered that the Bluetooth and software integration is quite good. As long as Bluetooth is turned on on my phone, my phone connects to the system instantly as I walk into my room. Also, switching the connection between devices is flawless and this is the first Bluetooth device that I have successfully paired to my Windows laptop.

Review at a Glance:

The Good: Design, sound quality, Bluetooth connection (speed and stability), price

The Acceptable/Bad: Nothing – no complaints at this time!
